American Islamic College seeks to admit all eligible students who have the ability, desire, and personal character necessary for successful post-secondary degree programs. The general factors to be considered include previous academic achievement and potential for conducting college-level study, letters of recommendation, life experiences and purpose for attending AIC.
AIC’s Institutional code for SAT is 1031
AIC’s Institutional code for ACT is 0999
The admission requirements for the undergraduate program include proof of graduation (official transcripts) from an accredited high school, or a passing grade on the General Educational Development (GED) test. A college entrance examination (SAT or ACT) is also required. In addition, applicants must submit an original 500-word essay, which responds to a question about their goals and aspirations, posed annually by the admissions office. To complete the application, two letters of recommendation from a high school principal, counselor, or teacher are required. Students will be expected to have graduated in the upper- quartile (25%ile) of their class rank, have obtained a minimum composite score of 21 on the ACT or 480 on Evidence Based Reading and Writing and 530 on Mathematics section of the SAT, and/or possess a cumulative GPA of no lower than a 2.75. Applicants will be expected to have completed a minimum of 3 years of English, 2 years of social science and 1 year each of math and the biological or physical sciences as well as all other credits/courses typically required by a pre-collegiate high school curriculum. Upon the recommendation of the Admissions Committee, a student not meeting these criteria might be considered for probationary admission on an individual case-by-case basis. Such students will be provided appropriate academic and/or other support-services not to exceed one semester and shall demonstrate subsequent satisfactory academic progress.
Transfer students seeking admission to the AIC are eligible to apply if they have achieved an overall college average of at least “C” or its equivalent and are in good academic standing. Applicants with an associate degree from an accredited junior or community college or with more than 36 semester hour credits from another college or university, which approximate the scope of the General Education Core, may not need to complete AIC’s General Education Core requirements. Transfer students are admitted at the beginning of each semester. All transfer applicants are required to submit an official transcript of all college work completed in addition to the items listed in the application procedure process. Due to the nature of some of the courses in Islamic Studies, students from non-accredited institutions specializing in Islamic religious instruction may be given credit for specific subjects based on transcripts and passing of Equivalency Exams administered by AIC.
Admission Requirements for Master of Arts and Master of Divinity in Islamic Studies Programs
AIC’s DI Code for GRE is 3576
AIC’s Institutional Code for MAT is 2874
The admission requirements for all Master-level programs include proof of graduation (official transcripts) from an accredited undergraduate or graduate program. Applicants must take the GRE or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) and submit all test scores to the Registrar’s Office. In addition, applicants must submit an original 500-word essay, which responds to a question about their goals and aspirations posed annually by the admissions office and two letters of recommendation, where at least one is from a college professor from their undergraduate or graduate program.
Applicants to the Master-level program will be expected to have a minimum GPA of 2.75 from the completion of their undergraduate or a 3.00 from their graduate studies. Additionally, the required personal essay, letters of recommendation, a supplementary and optional personal interview might also be used in the final determination of full or probationary acceptance.
Applicants for the Master of Divinity in Islamic studies program may be given “advanced-standing,” if they have a Master of Arts degree in Islamic studies.
An applicant for the Graduate Program may petition to receive graduate credit for courses taken at other accredited colleges and universities. Approval is dependent upon the Graduate Admissions Committee and the Director of Islamic studies. For evaluation of transfer credit taken prior to admission to the American Islamic College, the student must indicate on the application for admission any graduate transfer credit he or she would like to have considered. No more than nine (9) semester hours from other universities may be accepted in transfer for the MA Degree.
Students admitted to the American Islamic College Graduate Program may be allowed to enroll in select graduate courses at other accredited colleges or universities with the prior consultation and approval of the Director of Islamic studies. Such courses shall not exceed nine (9) semester hours and shall be selected to specifically correspond to courses that help meet the MA degree requirements. Only graduate courses can be transferred.
